Clement Mmaduakor Nwafor is an award-winning and self-taught Nigerian artist who mixes collage and oil paint to create colorful, mixed-media paintings. In Ankara and Beauty Series 2, Nwafor produces a masterful rendering of the gele, a Nigerian headwrap made of Ankara fabric, highlighting the purity and grace of the portrait. The Ankara fabric, both as an object and as a metaphor, is his means of showing the beauty of Africa to the world.
